We always learn from failure. Thomas Edison said it best when asked about his pursuit of inventing the light bulb; “I didn’t fail over 2000 times, I learned 2000 ways how not to invent a light bulb” (or something close to that). The point being, failure has something to teach us if we are open to learning.
If I were a Republican this is what I would have learned:
· When you abandon your core conservative values to try to win over moderates and democrats you lose.
· Conservative principles don’t change they only need to be communicated properly and passionately; then implemented!
· “My Friends” should be eliminated from the lexicon.
· Sarah Palin was not the reason Republicans lost; she was the reason the loss wasn’t bigger.
· When you are voted into power on conservative principles; govern as a conservative.
· Answer every media criticism with confidence, facts, and the simple caveat; I don’t agree with the premise of your question (it works for almost every question the media throws at a conservative).
I left the Republican Party over a year ago but I keep wondering if that is that the best way to impact the process? I am troubled by the process and want to be a part of the solution but I struggle with whether or not to get back in and fight the battle from the inside out. I look at the few votes that third party candidates get, and wonder if it will ever change. So many people just look for the R or D. They don’t get involved beyond that.
Looking for some help in my decision; should I run in 2010 as an unaffiliated candidate or should I return to the Party and get more involved? Who cares?

If I was invited – I may have read this for my opening in tonight’s debate…
I am Rich Hand and I am running for the Congressional District 5 seat because our political system has been corrupted by the two parties that have controlled it for too many years. We the people have been promised reform every election cycle but what we have been given is always more of the same. Both parties have been entrusted by the people to govern in their best interest. The only interests we see politicians protecting are the lobbyists, special interests, and their own.
We have watched our politicians in both parties ignore the facts that Social Security is going bankrupt, they have ignored the billions of dollars of fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, and every form of government contracting, and they ignored all the signs and warnings of the financial crisis we find ourselves in today. The two parties have failed us miserably, and again are promising us “change”, “reform”, and a host of other empty promises.
It is time to look at the results of the two parties and ask ourselves if they will ever deliver on their promises. I know they won’t so I am running. If you know they won’t, send a message by voting for me. It will send a message louder than any other message you can deliver.
I promise you I will deliver on one thing; I will never sell my soul to the devil of politics; lobbyists, special interests, and self interest. I will never accept a nickel from any group looking for access. What I will do every day in congress is to work for fundamental change in the rules of congress, the way they are elected, and to reduce the time that is spent in Washington. Both in days per year, and the amount of years they can serve.
You can’t reduce the encroachment of government until you reform the way congress conducts itself. Today one congressman can control the debate of the rest of the body. We recently saw Nancy Pelosi close down debate on energy policy, stealing the rights of the 434 other congress men and women representing hundreds of millions of Americans in the process. We watch as single committee chair people decide what bills are given consideration. There are rules to keep order, and there are rules that silence the voice of the people. The rules as of today silence the voices of millions of Americans. I ask you; is that right? Is that good policy? Is that constitutional? That ability to stop debate must change.
Money is the poison of the election process. I will propose to limit donations to allow only individual constituents within a representative’s district to donate to campaigns. I don’t understand why we allow corporations and interest groups to donate to congressional races. They can run all the ads they want on their own. What they are buying with their donation is the ability to control the representative through intimidation, and the threat of cutting off the life blood of the current election process; money. The lifeblood should be the constituents vote not the money funneled in by powerful interests.
I believe in the individual, the free market, limited government regulation, secure borders, and the hope that America represents to the world. I am proud of the military and the way they conduct themselves on our behalf. They make this all possible; God Bless them. I am proud to say I believe in God. I believe we are a Christian nation but it is best that religion is not a test for politicians. Just an indication of one’s beliefs and character.
I believe the federal government should be held accountable for stealing the hopes and dreams of the Black and inner city community. They need to be dismissed from having anything to do with the education of our citizens. All you have to do is look at the current state of education to see it has failed. Education is the fuel of hope and success. It is time to bring that money home to the states. I believe the states need to start reducing their dependence on the federal government, and reduce the hard earned treasure they send to the federal treasury.
I believe we must prepare the American people for the fight we may find ourselves in if the current democrats take control of every branch of government. They are radically opposed to the most fundamental of American values; individual freedom, state’s rights, a strong military, patriotism, free speech, free markets, the right to bear arms, and a supreme court that judges the law, not one that circumvents the constitution and creates law. We must realize that what they stand for resembles nothing that the founders would recognize. We must educate, communicate, and be willing to stand up for the American values that made us great; the constitution.
I am offering my service to fight the fight. All I ask is for your vote. You can have more of the same or you can try a new approach. I hope you choose me so I can bring trust back to the great halls of Congress…

Spread the Wealth?
Is the redistribution of income good for America? If you ask the people that go to work every day, earn 75K to 250K a year, working like dogs, traveling the globe while their families are home missing them, keeping this economy primed with tax revenue, they will say they are taxed enough. That is not selfish, that is not a lack of sensitivity or understanding that is reality.
How much do you want to take away from productive people before you think it’s enough? Obama has not clarified that for the voters yet, and I would like to know. I know there is an effort to bring back class warfare here but is that what we need now? Aren’t we divided enough?
Anyone that is willing to educate themselves, work the long hours it takes, and take the risks of owning a small business can be successful in America. Why don’t we celebrate them instead of punishing them? What gives the government the right to decide how much wealth we can keep? Why do people in this country buy into this notion of punishing the “rich”? Is it jealousy, envy, or something else? I have never been given a job by a poor person. I love people that are willing to risk it all and create jobs! And I believe they deserve all of the rewards of doing that.
Maybe we need to look in the mirror of America and ask ourselves; what can I do to create jobs? Instead of voting for people that punish the people that deserve our thanks... Just a thought…

Seniority in Congress and representatives like Doug Lamborn…
Inside pundits and party officials believe that you have to have political “experience” to be effective in elected office. They never clarify what that means in detail. Experience is usually described as having held office before, or being connected in the party apparatus. They never talk about the fact for example how Doug Lamborn (or other “career” politicians) have never held a job that has had a budget, employees, paid taxes, or had to work within or around regulations, say, like I have. That is not relevant if they have been a good party soldier.
I am the first to agree that experience is better than a degree any day. But what we have to look at is the results of that experience - not just the length of service. As the Republican and Democratic parties argue how independents are a “risk” for chairmanships and key roles in the government, they never point to results. Here are the results of the “experienced” and “career” politicians I have observed:
• Social Security is going bankrupt and being used to offset the real budget shortfall the federal government is running. No urgency here.
• Energy “policy” has been ignored - so now because of the “experienced” members of congress’ inaction, we now enjoy another crisis created by them, who now say they are the right people to fix it. Really?
• The inner city and minority communities are worse off than ever because of the programs of “career” politicians. It is criminal in my opinion to have spent trillions and the problem is worse. When will a new approach be tried by this group of “experienced” social engineers?
• The public education in this country has been hijacked by unions and special interests with the help of “experienced” politicians. The department of education funds need to be sent back to the states where they belong. I don’t want to cut education, because my experience tells me it is the answer to poverty, I just want the people closest to the community to have the funds they need to provide a quality education. Not a one size fits all approach. But I don’t have the experience to know this I guess.
• The federal “budget” is a disgrace. The economic ignorance is embarrassing because politicians like Doug Lamborn have never had to run a business within a budget. A budget is a foreign concept to most “career” politicians.
• Border Security is being ignored while our “career” politicians allow border agents to be assaulted and thrown in jail for shooting criminals in the arse. The fed sides with corrupt Mexican officials over our own American soldiers. And they act powerless? They are the US Congress in charge of securing our border; make it your issue dangit!
• Our military is the greatest most stabilizing institution in the world allowing for free trade to be conducted between the nations of the world, and yet our democratic “career” politicians continue to despise it and cut its funding whenever they can to divert funds that create jobs to put into failed social programs that suck the hope out of; New Orleans, LA, Detroit, and other inner cities that resemble third world nations. Never mind they are the defenders of all freedom loving nations in the world. Without them we have nothing.
I could go on forever here. So I ask; if this is what the “experienced” and “career” politicians results are, what is the risk in sending some fresh new blood to congress? We need to focus on results not intentions. The road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say so when will it be time to try a new approach?
We also need people in congress that are willing to passionately work to change the way it operates. Lobbyists, fund raising, selection of committee chairs, length of time in office and in DC, and the transfer of power back to the states where it belongs for most issues need to be addressed and changed. If you agree I say:
Give Congress a Hand; Rich Hand!

It is time to start campaigning…
From now until Election Day I will be starting to focus more on my cause of becoming the next representative in Colorado’s congressional district 5. The primary is done, and as expected incumbent Doug Lamborn cruised to an easy victory in the 3 way race. He could have been beaten by either of the 2 other candidates in my opinion in a 2 way race. Both Jeff Crank and Bentley Rayburn are good men and would have made much better leaders over Doug Lamborn. They split the vote because they are both such strong candidates. My only issue with either was their party status. I believe we need to work from the outside in because the parties have proven they can’t fix it from the inside out.
Doug Lamborn has a voting record that most in this district would support but being a leader in my opinion is bigger than that. He is content waiting in line for his place in a congressional system that favors length of service over skill, has money and lobbyists at its core, and is an assault on every American that lives in a district where they have had the guts to elect new representatives.
We need a leader that is willing to fight to change the rules of congress so they favor all Americans right to fair representation in congress. We need to change the system so good principled Americans want to run for office. And we need a representative that will stop taking their direction from the lobbyists in Washington DC. Mr Lamborn has been running commercials here stating how he has stood up to Nancy Pelosi and is willing to fight against her liberal policies. Well I take exception to that. From what he has done here by avoiding debates in the primary, and basically hiding behind an ad campaign, shows there is no way he is fighting Nancy Pelosi and liberals because he doesn’t even have the guts to stand up in front of his constituents to debate his candidacy with two “friendly” foes. Nancy Pelosi would eat this guy for lunch in a debate.
We need someone that knows that the system is broken and will fight to change the rules in the House. Doug will not even debate in an election cycle, do you believe he will stand up and challenge the Republican leadership to make the changes we need to get fair representation in congress?
I am running unaffiliated which is the largest voting block; and growing in Colorado. I will fight for changing rules that will help clean up congress so we can all feel better about the people we send to congress. The two parties have made this mess, and now they say they have the solutions to fix it?? Well I don’t know about you, but I think they need some help from us.
Please join me by going to my website and recommending it to other constituents in Colorado District 5. Thank you in advance…

Too much power for one person…
This article headline says it all when you wonder why congress is broken and getting 9% approval ratings: “Pelosi blocks offshore drilling vote that GOP wants”. Now I don’t care what the GOP wants, I do care what the people want, and they want us to drill for oil. They also want more renewable and alternatives as well. The bottom line is Americans want an energy plan that allows for a continued lifestyle of prosperity which means more energy supply.
That can only come with the help of congress, and one congress woman should not be able to stop the will of 434 others. Every congress person should have the opportunity to vote up or down on an energy bill or any bill. The people are no longer being fairly represented by the congress because of rules that put too much power in the hands of a few.
James Madison believed in representative government because he felt it would offset the fear he had of factions (majority’s) having too much control to make bad policy on popular movements, too quickly. He never intended congress to become the place where factions (parties) would thrive. He and the other founders believed a reasoned representation of the people would be men of stature with a view toward the good of the people. He never would have dreamed that one person in congress could have wielded so much control. They would have been fearful of any system giving one person or one group too much control. It is time to change the rules in congress and let all congressmen represent their constituents fairly. Only congress can do that since they make the rules. Find out where your congressman stands on the rules. This is not a game, this is our future…

If he doesn’t debate, what does that "say" about Representative Lamborn?
Doug Lamborn is refusing to debate his two rivals for the Republican nomination for his current position; Representative District 5 Colorado. Why would an incumbent politician not want to debate? The answer is obvious to the people who follow politics; because incumbents have an advantage, and debates can only hurt the incumbent while raising the profile of the challengers. Unless of course the incumbent is a competent and able leader.
The real problem for the incumbent is the more you see, the less you like. And that to me is a real problem for our country and district. What type of “leader” is he, if like his commercials say, and the Chamber of Commerce agrees, is someone we should send back to DC, but refuses to debate the issues? What would make him hesitant to defend and promote that record? I ask you; don’t the voters deserve at least a leader that will fight for himself, if not us?
What has happened to the definition of “leadership”? If Doug Lamborn is truly our “leader”, then why isn’t he out front promoting and defending his leadership? What type of leader hides and avoids the tough decisions or actions? What type of leader is one afraid to stand up against the competition? What is the definition of leadership today?
Political strategy aside, this is not leadership. I am embarrassed to have representing me a man that doesn’t have the fortitude to back up his positions and motivate the electorate with his vision. Anyone can vote, leadership is more than voting.
His TV commercials ring absolutely hollow when you assess his unwillingness to defend and promote his candidacy. Crank and Rayburn will be speaking to an empty chair at the debate. They should place an empty suit on that chair because that is what Lamborn is, an empty suit.
My candidacy is about changing the foundation of a broken system. This is one example of what is wrong today in the election of the people that are “running” this government (into the ground). One of the reasons we keep getting the Doug Lamborns of the world is exemplified in this process. Crank and Rayburn are putting themselves out there for judgment before the voters, and Lamborn is allowed to avoid the venue, denying the republican voters an opportunity to make a clear choice. The parties have reduced our choices in candidates, and Lamborn embodies the problem with the party system. Once you’re in the good ol boys club you will be protected and given special privilege even if you don’t have the guts to be a leader.
I have nothing personal against Doug except for the fact that he doesn’t deserve to hold a position he is unwilling to defend. This is unacceptable if you want to be a leader. As a constituent I am outraged at his lack of leadership. In his commercial he talks about fighting the liberals in congress. Do you believe that a man that cowers from a debate in his own party is “fighting” liberals in congress? Have some guts Representative Lamborn…

Crank VS Rayburn Congressional District 5 Colorado…
This is exactly why people are disillusioned by the Republican and Democratic Party’s. Here is an article regarding the Crank / Rayburn campaigns and I ask; how does this help politics and the voters?
It is basically an argument about a deal that was made between campaigns about deciding who would stay in the primary race based on a poll. Now we have polls deciding the party candidate you can choose? This is exactly why I left the party. Most of the primary is spent arguing who is the better candidate for the party rather than who the better candidate is for the electorate.
I understand they want to make it a two way fight against Lamborn but I would rather have them explaining why they are the best candidate for Colorado District 5. They are both good men with good intentions caught in an ugly process. I appreciate their passion for wanting to serve the community, but this entire primary process has gotten out of hand.
Who has lived here longer is silly to be arguing about. I think we should have a more robust general election campaign with more choices for the voters. The sad thing is that no matter what happens between these two, party members will more than likely vote for the incumbent because of has “insider” status now. Groups like Club for Growth will support him because they know him and he is a good follower, but he is not going to be a congressman that will ever make changes that are needed for the future of this country. He will be a guaranteed conservative vote but will he be a passionate leader for the conservative movement? There is a difference.
There are so many people that would make a better representative than Doug Lamborn including Crank, Rayburn, and myself. I challenge others to get into the race as a write-in to generate lively debate about the direction of this nation and the fundamental flaws of the current party politics.
I urge these two good men to abandon the party and offer themselves up to the electorate free from the shackles of the party. It would be good for everyone involved. Just a thought…

A War for the Soul of America
Make no mistake; this election is a front in the war for the soul of America. And it is most apparent in the race for congressional seats, the senate, and ultimately the Supreme Court. Unfortunately at the presidential level there is not much hope for those of us that believe our government is out of control. Although McCain is the lesser of two “evils”, he is not a leader willing to fight in the war against America’s “soul”. McCain has been in government too long, and he represents everything wrong with a political “career”. He has an impressive military career but it is time to move over for new leadership.
When the voters vote this year they will be deciding if the core principles of our founding constitution are still worth fighting for, and living by. The left represented by most democrats are insistent that America is the problem. Our structure of government, our capitalist economy, according to the left, has been selfish and too focused on individuals rather than the world community. We are wasting the “world’s” resources to indulge in an America they consider selfish. They believe that individuals must be checked by a supreme “Supreme Court”. In other words they believe the will of a few, is more important than a government given power by the governed. In more other words, they are elitist and believe we, mostly conservative citizens, are too stupid to govern ourselves. In other, other, words, they believe in dictatorship by committee.
This implementation of a dictatorship by committee can only happen when an electorate is ignorant, apathetic, or believes that it can never happen here in the US. The ignorance is happening because the left has controlled our education system which no longer teaches American history, culture, or its greatness. The apathy comes when people believe they have no impact on an election even if they vote. This has been achieved by the two parties controlling the access of candidates to the ballot. People take our system of government for granted. They forget about all of the blood that has been spilled to maintain a system of self rule. Americans forget that we are a very young, experimental system, which has never succeeded anywhere else in the world with the results we have achieved.
This election could change that delicate experiment “overnight”. The left ignores the constitution at their convenience and at our peril, while we ignore the implications of what they have done. They reference “global” law; they talk about a “living” constitution, and nominate judges that hate America, and what we stand for. It will not take long if we have a leftist radical president, supported by a leftist radical congress, ruled by a leftist out of control dictatorship at the Supreme Court.
How we win this war against the soul of America is to pay attention to politics. Vote for conservatives and independents that believe in the constitution and are proud of this nation, not “moderate” republicans or democrats. Ask politicians why we should support more government control as the left does, when what we get for results is; chaos and failure. Get involved and search for alternative candidates. Read and analyze what is truly happening. Go beyond the headlines and promises.
Make no mistake; this is a war. It is a war to preserve what we know we have been blessed with; the greatest system of government, the most generous people, the hope and beacon for the rest of the world. We are worth fighting for…

The TSA and Government Run Healthcare…
I was traveling last week and as I was standing in the security line with a few other business travelers at the Orlando airport, in utter frustration of the long lines and wait, turned to them and said, this is the perfect argument against government run healthcare. You see, there were 10 security lines, three of them open, seven closed, on the busiest day Friday, in one of the busiest airports in the country, and the TSA employees could care less about how slow the line was moving. I watched a number of travelers run for their flights, and I’m sure some may have missed them, but no matter, it was not the TSA’s problem.
Not only does the TSA hire the people that seem to have a knack for arrogance and a lack of customer service skills, they seem to think they have the right to make our travelling lives miserable. And they’re right, what can you do? You can’t complain because that will only slow things down; more, if that is possible. But they are acting as any government agency can because of a lack of competition and choice.
So next time you’re standing in the security line at the airport, look around at the TSA people and ask yourself if these are the people you want handling your healthcare? These will be the same people with the same attitude handling your experience at your visit to the doctor or the hospital. Think about it. There is no better example of what happens when the government takes over anything; it gets worse.
The TSA is the perfect argument against government run healthcare. Just a thought…

Doug Lamborn gets a grade of 100% from ACU…
The American Conservative Union gave a grade of 100% to Doug Lamborn (Rep CD 5 Colorado) for his lock step approach voting record in congress. What this tells me loud and clear is that Doug can be counted on to follow his way through congress. I expect Doug to vote the right way on conservative issues, but he is part of the fundamental problem in congress.
Where is his leadership? Where is his passion about changing a broken down system that is bankrupting our country? Where is his legislation to change the way congress doesn’t work? And I don’t want to hear that “freshman” have limited power. If they do; what are you doing to change the system, rock the boat, leading change?
I want to see legislation that caps congressional pay; period. I want to see legislation that eliminates any retirement benefits for legislators. I want to see a turnover in congress every 6 years at the most. I want to see American’s that know how America works to start getting into the process of running this government. I want to see the government moved closer to the people, not further away.
Doug Lamborn is the perfect representative for today’s congress. A person that has no vision but is easily moved to support any program labeled “conservative”. And the sad thing is so many people are buying what he and the two Political Parties are selling. Scare people with the issues and ignore the fact that the entire structure of the government is broken. We have too many representatives in congress that have sold the soul of America to the highest bidder. We need a new type of representative that has experience in life to tell all the lobbyists to take a back seat.
It is time to put the issues that will make a difference in the long term to the front bench.
· Reform the congress to get true representatives elected not party hacks.
· End retirement benefits for all Federal legislators.
· Reduce the time spent in Washington to limit the damage they can do while in DC.
· Move our country closer to the founding principles of this great nation.
This is not a personal attack on Doug. I’m sure is a fine man as far as men go. But we can’t sit back and allow our nation to continue down a path of bigger government, less individual participation, and economic disaster because he has a grade of 100% from a conservative group.
We need leaders in this nation with a burning in their belly to make a real difference. Not a person that can be counted on to do their bidding in DC.
Wake up conservatives; we need to find leadership and send it to DC to fix it; not endorse it. The congress is broken, the party system is broken, and they want us to continue to send them back to do more of what they are doing. Let’s give them a grade of F and move on. Let’s take back our government; now…

When Will Our Politicians Finally Stand Up For America?
When they are forced to is the answer. Unfortunately, Democrats and Republicans alike are not standing up for America’s long term interests; they are protecting short term and current interests of self serving groups and corporate entities.
This administration and congress refuses to assess what has happened under our so called “free” trade policies. Manufacturing goods has been outsourced to wherever the labor is cheaper, no matter what the impact on America or Americans. Don’t get me wrong, I am a free trade advocate but only when it is fair, and has no national security implications. Outsourcing our military manufacturing to China for example is national suicide in my opinion. Relying on foreign entities for food supplies and energy resources is national suicide in my opinion. Our entire set of trade policies need to be reevaluated to determine the impact they are having on America’s future viability and existence before extending them into the future.
I am unabashedly an American advocate and patriot. I am a nationalist first. I will never accept any “global” agreements that attempt to undermine American sovereignty or our constitution. I am proud of what we do as a nation on the world stage, and I pity those that believe we are anything but a moral nation at our core. I believe the American culture is the best hope for the future of our world. I do not believe we need to force our culture on anyone but we damn well need to protect, honor, and fight for all that is American. We need to fight for our constitution, our citizens, our borders, our language, our religious foundation, our capitalist economic system, and our nation’s future.
It is time to be proud again and that starts by electing representatives that are unabashedly proud of America. We don’t need apologists, guilt ridden elitists; Harvard educated nim wits, or career bureaucrats running America. We need you and me. The people that make this country work. The people that have a moral compass and understand our true role in the world. We can teach the world to fish but we need to take back the pond. So get involved, get connected, and start engaging in the political process. For America’s future. Just a thought…

It’s not health insurance; stupid…
It’s healthCARE! And we need to do a few fundamental things as consumers of healthcare to change it for the better:
• Learn how the AMA controls the number of potential doctors by artificially limiting student internships. It is shocking the control they have to keep the market inflated. Do they try to make sure doctors provide quality care as well? You bet, but there are things they do that hinder the market place. We need to demand more access for those that want to become a doctor.
• The AMA limits what nurses can do for patients. Nurses make a fraction of what doctors make, and let me tell you being married to one, they know as much, if not more than doctors. If they were not limited to the care they could provide, the price of services would be reduced (bad for doctor’s pay). We need to demand more access to care by nurses and alternative medical professionals.
• Trial lawyers like John Edwards, are like vultures circling over doctor’s heads, waiting for any mistake, or questionable diagnosis, to pounce and file a lawsuit, whether or not there was negligence. We need to decide as consumers whether or not we want to allow this to continue. The threat of lawsuits is hindering care, encouraging useless CYA (cover your anatomy) tests, and increasing the cost of care by astronomical proportions. We must put limits on this insanity.
• We need to reject health insurance for basic care. We should create a “healthcare pool” for anyone that is willing to pay for basic care like doctor’s visits and blood tests, limiting the cost people in this pool would pay, if something catastrophic happened like cancer or a heart attack. Anyone in this pool would have “insurance” against losing their home, business, or life savings. A small monthly payment for catastrophic care would be required to get into this pool, but it would guarantee a protection against their assets. Doctors would be protected against lawsuits if they provided care to anyone in this pool. With protection against the individuals in this pool from losing their lifetime savings and assets, people would more likely be willing to join. Creating a huge pool of consumers demanding market place reforms, and doctors willing to provide competitive care. This is just a rough plan but it is mine and one I will continue to develop.
These suggestions directly attack the “status quo” of healthcare; insurance companies, doctors, and patient “security” will be impacted, but if we want a better, less expensive system, we have to look at everything that is wrong with the current system.
I ask; do you really want politicians, the government, and insurance companies deciding the care you receive and pay for? Or do you want to decide your care? The choice is simple; the road will be hard. But think about the founders of this nation, and the road they had to choose. Was that an easy choice? Was it the right one? Just a thought…

Colorado Pols Make My Point About the Party System…
Colorado Pols is a great web site if you want to find out what the “insiders” of politics here in Colorado are thinking. I review it often. My name was actually mentioned there under the post; “El Paso Co. Repubs indicating Rayburn and Lamborn will petition on ballot, by-passing 5th CD caucus” (Nice to see someone remembered my name). For my many out of state viewers, I will not address the “inside” issues here, but rather the larger impact of the party selection process for candidates, and why it has “poisoned” the political process of our nation.
The parties are giving us candidates that do not reflect the need of our electorate because the process continues to be a contest in promising support to specific powerful special interest groups in the Republican Party (RP). For example; the Right to Life groups are very influential in the party, and they want a candidate like Doug Lamborn because basically that is Doug’s issue, and it guarantees their agenda moves forward. Special interests want people they can “influence and control”. The same thing goes on in the Democratic Party, these one issue groups are wielding disproportionate power over the candidate selection process within the parties. It is “poison” for the political system at large.
What we have at the national level is 535 Doug Lamborns, and the interest parties they represent, with power and influence over the national agenda that does not fit the priorities we must face as a nation. I am not saying abortion is not an important issue, it is, what I am saying is we are watching our borders being overwhelmed by people we know nothing about, entering our country illegally, a Social Security system heading for bankruptcy; fast, politicians threatening to have the government take over our healthcare decisions, and a federal budget that is so out of control most people have given up on any concept of making cuts and fighting for efficiency. The parties have “Balkanized” the issues without anyone stepping back and looking at how all these issues together impact the country as a whole. That would be called leadership.
So what we have is a “pawn”, Doug Lamborn, promoting the pro life stance without any effort to impact the larger issues that important to this nation. He is being challenged in the process by two other republicans but the focus should not be which candidate is best for the party faithful, it should be about who is the best candidate for the district and the country. The party system has lost site of the big picture. That is why I am petitioning on as an unaffiliated candidate this year.
Someone has to step in here and be a leader for the big picture. I am sure the “insiders” at the Colorado Polls will disagree, but I am betting the public at large may think differently. Just a thought, just a hope…

Is this freedom?
A “Blue Ribbon Commission” has recommended that the state of Colorado “require residents to purchase some sort of coverage” for healthcare insurance… These are the same state bureaucrats that think forcing people to show ID to vote is equivalent to a “poll tax”, and a barrier to casting a vote. Hypocrisy is standard operating procedure in any government bureaucracy.
First of all, insurance is not the issue; it is the issue of access to healthcare that needs to be in the fore front of the debate. The premise that we need insurance is what I argue is a false premise when we are talking about routine medical treatment. Insurance should only be discussed in the argument for “catastrophic” or beyond the “normal’ healthcare services we need access to. Based on actuarial tables, this insurance would be much more affordable. But that is not the issue here.
Why force people to pay for insurance they may not use? Why can’t I pay cash when I go to the doctor? What if I choose as an individual that the risk to cost ratio is too high, and I want to risk not paying the $300 a month for an insurance premium I may never use? When did we decide government should decide what is in our best interest? Should we allow the government to decide what car we drive? The Grocery store we use? What retailer’s we can buy our goods from? Why not just give bureaucrats the power to make all the decisions in our lives? Healthcare choices are no different. As I always say; if a service is unusually expensive, it is because the government has a hand in it. Usually through the arm of regulatory power.
When will it stop? The supporters of government run healthcare always tout the “one-payer” system as the way to increase efficiency in the system. They are right; it should be one payer for healthcare and that is the consumer. Just like we choose our landscaper, plumber, television set, and food, we need to shop for our doctor. We should not base that decision on our healthcare premium but rather base it on the quality and cost of the doctor providing the service. Just a thought…

We Must Protect Our American Culture…
Or we will end up with more of this: “Nancy Pelosi Forces Salvation Army to Hire People That Can’t Speak English.”
This is nuts and is getting ugly. We are being “Balkanized” by the diversity activists in our own country. Diversity for the sake of diversity is dangerous and corrosive to our county’s future. The less we have in common, the more we will see this type of conflict rear its ugly head in every institution in this country. The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission another useless bureaucracy) is forcing employers to hire people that don’t speak English. You laugh, and it would be funny if it wasn’t true, but it is.
It almost came to fist to cuffs on the House floor between Steny Hoyer and the leader of the Hispanic caucus, Joe Baca. Something as simple as making sure business will not be sued for requiring such a basic skill as speaking English has become a flash point for the bigger issue; English as our national language. It is time to pass a simple law that states; “all government communication will be spoken, written, and printed in English; there will be no requirement of any representative of the government to hire, speak, or print any other language than English; English is the national language of the United States of America”. How refreshing.
This doesn’t mean you can’t speak another language, actually I believe we should teach multiple languages in school, but when it comes to official government business or practical business practices, forcing other languages to be recognized is expensive and divisive. It undermines our American Culture and common method of communication. To say this is not bigotry, it is compassionate. If you can’t speak English you will always be “second” class in this country. You will not get ahead or be able to realize the American dream.
So it is time to say NO to this lunacy. We must fight back now before we find our American Culture so dismantled we don’t recognize it anymore. When we walk into a business in America we expect the people to speak English. If they don’t we take our business elsewhere. What next; suing people for not shopping at a business that has non- English speaking employees? You laugh but just wait if we allow this to continue.
For the sake of our future and the legal immigrants of our country, let’s stop the madness now. Vote out these lunatics and support term limits. Just a thought…

Doug Lamborn threatens constituents…
Now even a novice politician knows better than to threaten voters for voicing their opinion. Someone like Doug Lamborn, a political “fixture” in the Republican Party should have known better than to call up a couple of constituents, and leave a threatening voice mail for all to hear. Even if Doug disagreed with his constituent’s opinion, threatening their free speech is not the way to go. I have always criticized his ability to articulate issues, and his uneasiness in a crowd, and my belief he lacks leadership skills, but this is bad. This is not a rookie mistake, this shows total incompetence.
I am so glad I am running unaffiliated this year but I have to be selfish here; I hope he is the Republican nominee. If he beats Jeff Crank which is highly unlikely unless there is a three or four way primary race, I may actually have a shot if I petition onto the general ballot. Either way this incumbent representative is in deep trouble as a candidate already. There is a theory out there called the “Likability Factor” and it determines why people gravitate to some and not others. People gravitate to people they “like”. If the theory holds true, Doug has a real uphill battle on his hands in 2008. Especially if he is going to continue to threaten the people he hopes will vote for him. Just a thought…

The American People Know...
Democrats and anti war political pundits keep suggesting that there is this public clamoring for us to get out of Iraq; now. I have seen poll numbers that suggest that there is some validity to their suggestion but there is a key problem with their position. They have yet to persuade the public that if we left tomorrow, we could all live with the results of what that will mean to the people of Iraq, the region, and the war on terror. This is a result they refuse to address. With good reason; it doesn’t support their argument for immediate withdrawal. In fact, it supports the argument for staying in Iraq.
I talk to a lot of people about Iraq, and no one is enthusiastic about our presence there, including me, but most people understand that we represent the only hope the Iraqi people have at a chance toward a better future. The American people know in their heart of hearts that if we give up and leave; only disaster can follow. You don’t have to be a political pundit to know that the region is littered with dictators, and terrorists waiting with baited breath for our departure, and the second that is announced, the future possibility of a free Iraq is over.
So while the political pundits and democratic politicians clamor for withdrawal, they have failed to persuade the American people that the result of leaving the Iraqis to fend for themselves will be one we as a people can live with. I know my family members that have been to Iraq, and are on their way back to Iraq; deserve the opportunity to finish their noble mission of operation freedom. We learned from past wars that the soldiers that have died in action, for a noble cause, and in defense of this great nation, deserve our unwavering support to protect their legacy and sacrifice.
We as Americans know that standing by our soldiers in both their life and their death is something we must do; even if it is difficult. So as the democrats and detractors of the war in Iraq raise their level of discontent with the war, the American people stand by our soldiers, their sacrifice, and their mission. Their legacy is already a great one; we just need to let them finish their work. I just wish the pundit class would do the same. Just a thought…

Power vs. Democracy…
What would happen to our government if we had congressional term limits? There are two basic arguments for and against term limits. People that oppose term limits believe that the consistent turnover of power undermines the ability of politicians to set policy for the nation and “bring home the bacon”. Basically they see longevity as consistency and getting more federal funds for their district. The people that support term limits see it as the only way to get rid of entrenched incumbents because the system is so weighted in favor of reelecting powerful incumbents. They believe politicians once elected, focus most of their attention at getting reelected, therefore needing to raise money, and in raising that money, give favor to policies that align with donors; “the good old boy/girl” network. The longer a politician resides in Washington, the more powerful the committee’s they chair, and the more that district controls national power.
Voters measure their politicians by “what they get done”. But what if what they are getting “done” is hurting the nation as a whole? How does a voter in Colorado get rid of a representative in Massachusetts that has been there for forty years, brings home the bacon to his district, but passes education and environmental policies that handcuff and undermine Colorado principals and values? Where is the principal in that? We are burdened by legislation nurtured and sponsored by committee chairman, not because it is good for the nation but because it is good for their “constituency”; whether that constituency is the voters in their district or the powerful lobbying groups that finance that politician’s reelection.
When will we as American’s, citizens of these United States actually start voting for policies that are good for the nation rather than the few? When it is too late? Maybe, after a devastating terrorist attack on one of our cities because we failed to secure our borders? After the nation’s largest corporations are allowed to reap the benefits of our laws and economic freedoms while they move their headquarters and jobs to tax friendly countries? Even if those countries deny basic human rights. Or will it be when our self interested politicians have devastated every institution and founding principal that makes us great; like our constitution?
Have we lost our "American soul"?
I know that there are great American’s out there that want to serve this nation, not for personal gain, but because of their commitment to this great nation and the beacon of freedom and tolerance our system represents. I believe these great American’s number in the millions and the best way to tap this greatness is to implement term limits and give others a chance. A chance to move beyond a “bring home the bacon” attitude. A chance to implement new policies to replace the failures of the past; educational excellence and the “war on poverty” come to the top of my mind. It is our opportunity to unite around our founding principles. Term limits is our opportunity to reduce the power in Washington and improve our nation as a truly representative democracy. Just a thought…
